Looking for the main clinic website?
Visit takuruavets.nz for our cattery tour, preparation videos, and general clinic info.
Takurua Boarding Cattery operates alongside our fully operational veterinary clinic. That means your cat isn’t just “staying somewhere” — they’re staying in a calm, structured environment with clinical oversight available if they need it. We can support prescribed medications, follow anxiety or “chill” protocols you’ve discussed with our team, and keep an eye out for changes in appetite, behaviour, or health during their stay.
If you’d like to see where your cat will stay, watch our cattery tour on the main site. We also share simple guidance on what to bring and how to set your cat up for a smoother drop-off.
To protect every cat in our care, we require up-to-date cat flu vaccinations and current flea and worm treatment.
Vaccinations
Your cat must be vaccinated for cat flu within the last 12 months.
Flea and worm treatment
Your cat must be on current flea and worm prevention before arrival.
Clinic discount
If vaccinations and flea/worm treatments are completed at Takurua Vets in the months leading up to the booking, we offer a 15% discount on those services.
Bring a familiar item from home (a bed, blanket, or a piece of clothing that smells like you). For longer stays, 2–3 items that we can rotate can help cats settle faster. Please pack belongings in a named bag/box so nothing gets mixed up.
We keep a selection of kibble options and will try to accommodate your cat’s preferences where we can. If your cat is on a prescription diet, a specialised diet, is particularly fussy, or eats raw food, please supply their food and contact us in advance so we can confirm safe handling and storage.
Weekdays (Mon–Fri): drop-off and pick-up any time 8:00am – 6:00pm.
Weekends & public holidays: drop-off and pick-up at 10:00am or 5:00pm only.
Arriving at the scheduled time helps us keep the environment calm and predictable for the cats in our care.
Bookings require a 50% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due one day before arrival. Cancellations within 24 hours of arrival (or no-shows) are liable for the full boarding fee.
Christmas and Easter fill quickly and capacity is limited. If you already know your dates, booking early is the safest option.
Please make one booking per cat (1 cat per booking). We care for, feed, and monitor each cat individually. If your cats are a family group and you’d like them to share accommodation, add a note in your booking and we’ll accommodate this where appropriate.
If anything is unclear - diets, medications, anxious cats, or timing - contact the clinic and we’ll help you plan a smooth stay.
